Background Information

More than 70% of Americans contribute to the nonprofit groups of their choice throughout their lifetimes. Only about 6% continue this support through a gift in their wills or estate plans.

Paul Schervish, researcher at Boston College, estimated in his 1999 study that $41 trillion will be transferred through estates by 2050.

According to "Federal Taxation of Wealth Transfers", IRS Statistics of Income Bulletin, in 1995, only 19% of Federal Estate Tax Returns reported a charitable bequest. In other words, 81% of the wealthiest individuals in America (estates of $600,000 or more) did not leave a single penny to charity in their will.

Leave a Legacy does not solicit gifts for any particular organization. Instead, the program is a cooperative effort of all types of nonprofit agencies.

Leave a Legacy is sponsored by the National Committee on Planned Giving (NCPG) and, locally, by the Planned Giving Council of Northern Ohio. These professional associations are organized to facilitate, coordinate and encourage the education and training of the planned giving community.

LEAVE A LEGACY® Stark County is a collaborative effort of nonprofit organizations, estate planning professionals and volunteers in Stark County.
